Physical Education Supervision

LAUSD mandates elementary school students receive 200 minutes of physical education every two weeks. In 5th grade, students are required to take a Physical Fitness Test (PFT). The state-designated PFT is the FITNESSGRAM.

At Third Street School, the grade-level teachers are responsible for their students’ physical education; no funding is provided by the district for a dedicated Physical Education instructor.  With this lack of a district-funded instructor for physical education, Friends of Third funds the employment of a full-time playground/physical education supervisor. This coach oversees the safety and security of children during playground periods, as well as provides guidance and structure to assist grade-level teachers for physical education instruction from week-to-week.

This is not an official LAUSD website and the content does not reflect policy or opinions of the Los Angeles Unified School
District or Third Street School administration. Details about the school are provided here for informational purposes only.
Regardless of ability to donate, ALL students and families will be able to participate in all FOT/PTA-sponsored programs and activities.
